Star Halo
What it is
Star Halo is the energy+energy legendary weapon. Stars stream from the ship’s front into a circular formation around the player, rigid-body spin for three slow revolutions, then burst radially outward and each detonate. No damage is dealt during the spin phase — all damage comes from the post-spin burst-out and per-star explosion. It fires on a timer regardless of enemy presence, always casting when its cooldown elapses.
Merge recipe
| Slot | Required input |
|---|---|
| Parent A | Level-20 energy non-legendary weapon |
| Parent B | Level-20 energy non-legendary weapon |
| Result | Star Halo at level 1 |
Pair key: energy+energy. Both damage tag (primary) and secondary damage tag are energy.
Stats
All scaling is linear: value = base + scaling × (level − 1). Star count is a stepped curve and snaps at the listed thresholds.
| Stat | L1 | L10 | L20 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stars per cast | 5 | 12 | 30 |
| Per-star damage | 3000 | 3000 | 3000 |
| Whole-cast impact damage (stars × damage) | 15,000 | 36,000 | 90,000 |
| Casts per second | 0.20 | 0.42 | 0.67 |
| Cooldown between casts (sec) | 5.00 | 2.37 | 1.49 |
| Ring radius (px, pre-cap) | 200 | 245 | 295 |
| Burst-out distance added to ring (px) | 60 | 114 | 174 |
| Per-star explosion radius (px) | 110 | 137 | 167 |
| Acquire range (px) | 600 | 708 | 828 |
Per-hit modifiers from the damage multiplier curve: dmgPerH = 0.04, ratePerH = 0.10.
Fixed parameters:
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Star projectile size (px) | 22 |
| Star stream spacing (sec between spawns) | 0.04 |
| Star stream speed (px/sec) | 1400 |
| Ring spins (full revolutions per cast) | 3 |
| Ring spin duration (sec) | 3.2 |
| Travel range multiplier | 1.0 |
| Warmup (sec) | 0.0 |
Behavior
Star Halo uses the orbit_ring behavior carveout, which is player-centered and does not require a target lock to fire.
Cast phases:
- Stream-in. Stars spawn from the ship’s front at 0.04s intervals and travel at 1400 px/sec toward their assigned slot on the formation circle around the player.
- Spin. Once all stars reach the ring, the formation rigid-body spins 3 full revolutions over 3.2 seconds. The halo deals no damage during this phase — anything inside the ring is safe.
- Burst-out. Stars accelerate radially outward over 0.30 seconds, traveling an additional distance scaling from +60 px (L1) to +174 px (L20) beyond the ring radius.
- Detonation. Each star detonates at its final position with a blast of the per-star explosion radius, applying energy damage to every enemy in range.
Targeting and collision:
| Field | Value | Reference |
|---|---|---|
| Target mode | closest (informational only — fires on timer) | concept-target-modes |
| Collision mode | pierce_all | concept-collision-modes |
| Can hit destructibles | Yes | — |
| Area mode | splash | — |
Ring radius is capped at fire time to 50% of portrait viewport width, so the formation never extends past the visible play area.
Scaling
Per-star damage is flat at 3000 across all levels. Total cast damage scales primarily through star count (stepped curve) and secondarily through faster casts (linear fire-rate growth). Spatial coverage scales independently: ring radius, burst-out distance, and per-star explosion radius all grow linearly with level, so high-level halos sweep a meaningfully wider area than L1 casts.
Star count thresholds:
| Level reached | Stars per cast |
|---|---|
| 1 | 5 |
| 4 | 8 |
| 8 | 12 |
| 12 | 18 |
| 16 | 24 |
| 20 | 30 |
