Racer

What it is

A high-speed melee enemy that does not chase the player. Racers follow invisible lane waypoints assigned by the spawner at full speed in a straight path, dealing contact damage to anything in their way. They despawn after passing the end of their lane.

Racers are the fast melee basic of the city enemy set (paired with the gunner) and appear as the rare-tier minority in the bugs-racer planet variant. They are immune to stun and knockback, and always run their full AI (never downgraded to dumb-mode at distance).

Racers are tagged as fast.

Stats (per rarity tier)

Final stats are base × rarity multiplier. Damage values are the contact-damage multiplier applied at the rarity tier — base contact damage is set by the world knob, not the archetype.

Behavior

On spawn, the spawner assigns each racer to an invisible lane (a list of waypoints) and places it at the first waypoint. If no lane is assigned, the racer falls back to flying in a random straight direction.

Each tick the racer steers directly toward its current waypoint at full speed. When it gets within 15 units of a waypoint, it advances to the next one. When it passes the last waypoint, it self-destructs (despawns).

Racers do not target or pursue the player. They only deal damage if the player crosses their path — contact triggers melee damage on collision.

Spawning is handled in groups (3–5 racers on the same lane) to create traffic patterns.
